Sinds er niemand in Nederland meer op een turfje zit te wachten, ligt het kanaal er verloren bij. In het Le plat pays zingt Jacques Brel over Le canal perdu en wie zijn Vlaanderen kent weet hoe desolaat een verlaten kanaal er daar in een opgedoekte industrie streek uit kan zien. Zo niet het Oranjekanaal bij Wezuperbrug. Hier veeleer de ontspannen schoonheid van het nutteloze. Een passende brug bij een verloren kanaal.
